Galway Tipster – Sunday

Nap of the day – Dream Walker (3.55)

2.15 – Papal Motel – Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Hurdle – Each/Way

Papal Motel would not be winning out of turn. His last two starts have been on the Flat and he ran a huge race from a poor draw when third to Andratx and Camlann here on Thursday afternoon. He had earlier finished closer when just losing out at Limerick and on his most recent effort over hurdles was second to Whiskey Sour at Tramore at the beginning of June. That looks good from now and he is chosen ahead of Newstart which was a fair fourth to Pateen here on Monday night. Afatcat would have a chance on his run behind Knockmaole Boy at Limerick a month ago and the likes of Treasure Chest, Lisa’s Legacy, Ten Theatre, Mezajy and Mr Moondance will have their supporters too.

Exacta – 6-9 (Papal Motel/Newstart)

Trifecta – 6-9-1 (Papal Motel/Newstart/Afatcat)

Galway Tipster – Saturday

Nap of the day – After Rain (3.05)

2.30 – Big Ben – O’Leary Insurances Maiden Hurdle – Win

Big Ben has quite an absence to overcome but is certainly an exciting prospect. A winner over ten furlongs at the Curragh in August of last year, he was jumping for the first time when runner-up to his better fancied stable companion Landofhopeandglory at Fairyhouse in November and that looks fair hurdles form. Running for the first time since then, he is chosen ahead of Mountain Rock which finished runner-up to Knockmaole Boy over hurdles at Down Royal in June and has since finished second to Sandymount Duke on the Flat at Leopardstown. Shinghari is running for the second time this week and is over hurdles for the first time but he might not pose the same danger as Aydoun which was a moderate third to the selection’s stable companion Le Richebourg here on Monday and is likely to do better here.

Exacta – 10-5 (Big Ben/Mountain Rock) Trifecta – 10-5-9 (Big Ben/Mountain Rock/Aydoun)

Galway Tipster – Friday

Nap of the day – Empress Lyla (7.55)

5.10 – Top Othe Ra – Guinness Handicap Hurdle – Each/Way

Top Othe Ra finally got off the mark at Ballinrobe and is taken to follow up in the competitive contest. He held on to beat the well-fancied Licklighter on that occasion and his earlier run behind Timiyan also reads quite well. Camlann ran three times at the festival last year and was a winner on the final day, and he ran another big race here when second to the well-handicapped Andratx over 12 furlongs yesterday. His previous form also reads very well but it’s not quite as good as Stormey which added to his win at Clonmel in May with a clear-cut success at Bellewstown a month ago. Monarch was the winner of a maiden hurdle at Kilbeggan two weeks ago and runs in his first handicap hurdle while one with more experience is Rochdale House which comes here having won at Sligo last time. Zanjabeel (change in going) is a notable early non-runner while, back over hurdles, Light That should also be considered and Golden Spear is yet another to note. Morga ran a huge race to finish fifth behind Tigris River in the big race yesterday but doesn’t run here.

Exacta – 10-8 (Top Othe Ra/Monarch) Trifecta – 10-8-6 (Top Othe Ra/Monarch/Stormey) Continue reading “Galway Tipster – Friday”

Galway Hurdle Day Tipster

Nap of the day – Spruce Meadows (2.50)

1.40 – Tesseract – Guinness Galway Gold Beginners Chase – Win

Tesseract needs to improve on what he showed at Kilbeggan but that run came on the back of a fall at Limerick and his confidence might just have been restored. No match for Conrad Hastings over a shorter trip than this last time, he did finish in front of this afternoon’s rival Jeannot De Nonant and will do so again if his jumping holds up. Jeannot De Nonant ran a big race when third to Rashaan over hurdles at Cork since and might be the biggest danger ahead of Ballela Boy which was over fences for the first time when a moderate fourth behind Rathvinden at Wexford. He has ground to make up on Fly Rory Fly on that run but he possibly more has scope for improvement. Just Cause was well in front of Silverfort at Limerick and might be the pick of the remainder.

Exacta – 14-8 (Tesseract/Jeannot De Nonant)

Trifecta – 14-8-2 (Tesseract/Jeannot De Nonant/Ballela Boy)

Tote Galway Plate Day Tipster

Nap of the day – Deans Road (5.35)

3.25 – Castello Sforza – Win Big With Tote Maiden Hurdle – Win

Castello Sforza failed to land a blow in the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys´ Handicap Hurdle but can be fancied on his earlier form. He had done well in maiden hurdles behind Runfordave, Joey Sasa and Mossback last winter and a repeat of any of those runs should see him home in front now. His stable companion Minella Beau runs over hurdles for the first time and arrives here after losing out in a bumper to Gagas Horse at Limerick in May. He had beaten that same rival at Cork in April and his most recent effort was disappointing. Silver Concorde is getting on in years and hasn’t run since September of last year. He was second, when a 4/7 favourite, in this race 12 months ago and might
do well to go as close this time around.

Exacta – 2-5 (Castello Sforza/Minella Beau)
Trifecta – 2-5-6 (Castello Sforza/Minella Beau/Silver Concorde) Continue reading “Tote Galway Plate Day Tipster”

Galway Races – Noel Meade Interview

Co. Meath trainer Noel Meade talks to us ahead of this week’s Galway Plate and the chances of former winner Road To Riches.

Road To Riches is down to run in the Galway Plate on Wednesday, what kind of form is he in?

He had a problem last year after he got a very bad fall at Punchestown he came down very heavy and we couldn’t get him looking well or looking right all year, it transpired that he had actually moved his spleen over to the other side of his stomach but we didn’t find that out until the Spring of this year. Since we got that sorted he really has turned inside out and he looks more like what he used to look like in the beginning of his career and he’s been working very well and we have been very happy with him.

Galway Races – Tuesday Tipster

Jackpot_Banner_Rollover_64260

Nap of the day – Knockmaole Boy (8.40)

5.20 – Housesofparliament – COLM QUINN BMW Novice Hurdle – Win

Housesofparliament has a near six-month absence to overcome but he should be up to this. A smart stayer on the Flat, he made his debut over hurdles at the Leopardstown Christmas festival and just found the promising Meri Devie too good for him. He returned to the same track to contest the Grade 1 Spring Juvenile Hurdle in February and ran well for much of the way before fading in the straight to finish a moderate seventh of the eight runners behind Mega Fortune. There is unlikely to be anything of that quality here and the four-year-old is chosen ahead of Cinema De Quartier which improved on his debut over hurdles at Punchestown at the end of May with a runaway success at Kilbeggan five weeks ago. Law Girl was also a winner at the second time of asking over hurdles and the form of her victory over subsequent winner The Birdie Crowe might just be stronger than the form shown by Deor when he scored on his return at Cork in the middle of last month.

Exacta – 5-3 (Housesofparliament/Cinema De Quartier)
Trifecta – 5-3-6 (Housesofparliament/Cinema De Quartier/Law Girl) Continue reading “Galway Races – Tuesday Tipster”
