Galway Tipster – Saturday

Nap of the day – After Rain (3.05)

2.30 – Big Ben – O’Leary Insurances Maiden Hurdle – Win

Big Ben has quite an absence to overcome but is certainly an exciting prospect. A winner over ten furlongs at the Curragh in August of last year, he was jumping for the first time when runner-up to his better fancied stable companion Landofhopeandglory at Fairyhouse in November and that looks fair hurdles form. Running for the first time since then, he is chosen ahead of Mountain Rock which finished runner-up to Knockmaole Boy over hurdles at Down Royal in June and has since finished second to Sandymount Duke on the Flat at Leopardstown. Shinghari is running for the second time this week and is over hurdles for the first time but he might not pose the same danger as Aydoun which was a moderate third to the selection’s stable companion Le Richebourg here on Monday and is likely to do better here.

Exacta – 10-5 (Big Ben/Mountain Rock) Trifecta – 10-5-9 (Big Ben/Mountain Rock/Aydoun)

3.05 – After Rain – Galway Shopping Centre Handicap Hurdle – Each/Way

After Rain tries this trip for the first time but makes loads of appeal on his earlier form. He has been running well in good handicap hurdles since Christmas, going close in the Coral.ie Handicap Hurdle at Leopardstown in January and not beaten all that far at the Fairyhouse and Punchestown festivals. His run behind Open Rain over a trip not far off this at Punchestown was possibly his best effort and he ran nicely behind St Stephen’s Green over a shorter distance at Killarney in May. Willie Mullins is well represented and must have chances with Cap D’Aubois, The Crafty Butcher and Lagostovegas which was third in the big amateur riders’ handicap on the Flat here on Monday. Hidden Cyclone was a close sixth in that race and should go well despite top-weight while Tellthemnuttin, Mine Now and Jarob are a few more to consider.

Exacta – 5-10 (After Rain/The Crafty Butcher) Trifecta – 5-10-6 (After Rain/The Crafty Butcher/Jarob)

3.40 – Amedeo Modigliani – Galway Shopping Centre Irish EBF Maiden – Win

Amedeo Modigliani is going to take all the beating. He was third to his stable companion, the leading juvenile Gustav Klimt on his debut at the Curragh at the beginning of last month and is sure to improve. Crecerelle has finished sixth on each of his two starts and looks up against it and a bigger danger to the selection might just come from the newcomer Flatter Bere which represents a stable that has done well with a handful of two-year-olds this season. Rhythm Of Love is rated 62 after four runs and it will be a surprise if she can get involved.

Exacta – 1-3 (Amedeo Modigliani/Flatter Bere) Trifecta – 1-3-2 (Amedeo Modigliani/Flatter Bere/Crecerelle)

4.15 – Deep Breath – Galway Shopping Centre Irish EBF Nursery Handicap – Win

Deep Breath carries the hopes of a stable in the best of form and might just come out on top. She was a narrow winner at the first time of asking at Fairyhouse a month ago and ran another big race when third to Golden spell at the Curragh subsequently. Up in trip for this, she should be a match for the more experienced Mount Wellington which runs over an extra two furlongs here having finished third to Emadee at Naas ten days ago. Bachelor should go well under top-weight while chances can also be given to Painting Pictures which drops back in trip for this and Island Affair which won over this distance at Down Royal a week ago.

Exacta – 5-2 (Deep Breath/Mount Wellington) Trifecta – 5-2-3 (Deep Breath/Mount Wellington/Painting Pictures)

4.50 – Guanabara Bay – Ardilaun Hotel Handicap – Each/Way

Guanabara Bay is up 6lbs in future for his effort behind the well-fancied Serefeli here during the week and might be the answer to this. Denied a clear run early in the straight, he finished well to take fifth place that night and might now get the better of Atlas which was just in front on him here on Tuesday. Prove The Point was just behind the pair on that occasion and could struggle to turn the form around. There was little between Avalanche, Beau Satchel and Grainne’s Dream on their run behind Knockmaole Boy here on Tuesday night and they should all play their part again while Pure Action, third to Cascavelle on Tuesday and Dinky Inty, a winner over the course and distance on Monday night, clearly have their chance too.

Exacta – 7-13 (Guanabara Bay/Atlas) Trifecta – 7-13-15 (Guanabara Bay/Atlas/Dinky Inty)

5.25 – Nearly Famous – Terry Cunningham Memorial Handicap – Each/Way

The ground is certainly a worry for Nearly Famous but her recent efforts are hard to fault and she might be worth taking a chance with. She ran well in races at Leopardstown, Navan and Cork and showed her wellbeing when an easy winner of a charity race at the Curragh last time. This is obviously very different but she should go well from a favourable draw. USA is running for the third time this week and while he just lost out to Serefeli on Tuesday, he was soundly beaten by Andratx here on Thursday afternoon. Camlann was second to that well-handicapped winner and with a better draw might even have been the choice. Boom And Bush, Detailed and Pirolo are three to note from favourable draws while on the other side of the stalls, form horses Tudor City, Striking Gold and Veneer Of Charm appear to be at an immediate disadvantage.

Exacta – 5-13 (Nearly Famous/Camlann) Trifecta – 5-13-18 (Nearly Famous/Camlann/Boom Or Bush)

5.55 – True Self – Galway Shopping Centre Irish EBF Mares INH Flat Race – Win

Willie Mullins has had a great week and perhaps True Self will take all the beating. He finished second in a ‘Junior’ bumper at Warwick in November of last year when trained by Don Cantillon and has his first start for new connections here. Masons Daughter dead-heated for third place behind the promising Thegreatestreward at Limerick two weeks ago and should go well. O’Faolains Cailin finished ahead of Florazi when third to Vittorio at Roscommon on her debut and should be better again. Mysloeigh ran well over hurdles at Tipperary last month and should improve as that was her first start since early December. She might even be the biggest danger to the selection.

Exacta – 13-9 (True Self/Mysloeigh) Trifecta – 13-9-12 (True Self/Mysloeigh/O’Faolains Cailin)
