Danny Mullins – Tote Galway Plate Day

Last year’s Tote H’cap Hurdle winner Danny Mullins gives us an update ahead of his two rides today including thetote.com Galway Plate in which he rides Sandymount Duke.

I have a couple of nice rides today including Our Kylie for Brian Ellison and I ride Sandymount Duke for Jessica Harrington in the Galway Plate.

Our Kylie won this race last year and hasn’t run over hurdles since. She’s well handicapped and with course form she can hopefully pick up this race again. Sandymount Duke is a horse that I think has a great chance in the big race. I was second to Sandymount Duke in Punchestown at the end of May.

He then won the Galway Plate trial in Down Royal and he has run and won on the flat at Leopardstown since that race in Punchestown so he should be spot on for today. He has a bit of a lazy running style which should suit this race. A rough race like the Galway Plate should be right up his street as I can get him to settle in to a nice rhythm in the middle part of the race and hopefully he can finish off his race.

I sat on him in Jessica’s the other day and he felt great so fingers crossed he can go well. Most of his form is on good ground but Jessica has no real worries about him on softer ground. He was campaigned in the summer time before and he racked up a few wins over the summer months over hurdles. If he is to win, he will need a big performance as he’s carrying a big enough weight but a huge positive is that he is in winning form whereas a lot of the other horses in the race haven’t been winning. I’m on a horse that’s in great form and he looks great so I’m hopeful of a good spin around on him and hopefully things go well for us.
