The final Group 1 of the flat racing season in the UK takes place in Doncaster tomorrow and there are plenty of Irish entries hoping to take the prize back over the water. Aidan O’Brien, naturally enough, is well represented with Yucatan, Finn McCool and The Anvil. Of the three you would have to strongly fancy Yucatan following the flood of money that came earlier this week on the back of a sparkling piece of work down in Ballydoyle. It was this piece of work that also led to Capri being kept at home. Yucatan will be phenomenally hard to beat. Ger Lyons also sends over Brutal but you would imagine that Aidan O’Brien knows where he stands with this one on a line of form through Finn McCool.
Cheltenham Open Meeting
The second day of the Cheltenham Open Meeting also takes place tomorrow. Henry De Bromhead and Jessica Harrington are both represented in the big handicap hurdle and, of the three entries, you would imagine that Devil’s Bride has the best chance for the away team. His last 3 runs have seen him Win, Unseat and finish a good 3rd behind Ballycasey in the PWC Champion Chase at Gowran Park. Rachael Blackmore takes the ride for the 1st time and her 5lb allowance could prove vital.
Gordon Elliot and Charles Byrnes both have runners in the following Pertemps Handicap Hurdle and it’s Charles Byrnes’ Top of The Town just preferred to fellow hat-trick seeker Eshtiaal getting 12lb. Only one of the last seven winners has carried more than 11st.
